Wrist Pain

As we return back to work and the school holidays come to an end, for many of us, it’s back to the desk.

If you have a desk job, you’re at risk

For those who work 40+ hours per week at the desk, it’s no secret that the humble desk can actually cause a multitude of problems for many parts of the body. However, as the title states, we will focus on wrist pain this week.

Wrist pain and injury is quite a common issue that we see come into the practice. We find that although sport is of course a primary cause of wrist injuries, the second major cause of wrist pain is usually the result of a person’s everyday work habits. This is then fuelled even more by the ongoing use of the wrist for everyday movements and actions.

Wrist movement is key to efficient everyday functioning

Not only do our wrists carry out simple tasks, they too can carry out complex tasks and we use them for almost everything – from communicating to creating! There’s not much that the wrist can’t do. With this in mind, how can it be a surprise that these all-important joints and ligaments can then become prone to repetitive strain injuries?

What to do if you suffer from wrist pain

Thankfully, many wrist conditions can be managed and treated thanks to physiotherapy successfully and may also reduce your risk of surgery. No matter what the cause of your wrist pain is, you can trust the team at Progressive Sports and Spinal Physiotherapy to provide you with an accurate assessment about your wrist condition and to provide you with the most effective treatment to give you relief.

Your progression to wrist pain relief

When you come to our practice, a member of our highly experience team will get to know your history and take you through a thorough assessment process to get to the cause of your pain. In many cases, the suggestion of an x-ray or other type of scan may occur.

Once we have an accurate picture of your condition we:

  • talk to you about the best treatment options
  • create a personalised rehabilitation program
  • suggest exercises for you to do at home, and
  • give you strategies to manage and minimise your pain.

When it comes to your wrist pain, early treatment is vital to avoid long-term pain and injury. After all, if you’re working 40+ hours a week at a desk, or enjoy being on the computer you’ll need your wrist pain solved before it begins to interfere with your working habits and gets too painful.
